NYE with The Black Crowes and Trey Anastasio
There isn't much to say about this show except that it was awesome. This show was a great way to end 2005. I had a few doubt about this show going into it but all of those doubts were forgotten the minute the music started. Although My Morning Jacket were definitely missed. My Morning Jacket was forced to cancel after Jim James was diagnosed with pneumonia. It is always great to see Trey Anastasio and in a way his presence was very appropriate. Since MSG was always a very special venue for Phish and specifically on new year's eve. Trey's set was very very good. His new band just keeps getting better and better. The hightlights for me were Sand and First Tube.
This show was also a testament to how far the Black Crowes have come this year. 2005 started with the Black Crowes still on hiatus and the year ended with them playing the best venue in the world. The Black Crowes' two sets were a great way to say the least. The Black Crowes last song of 2005 was Space Captian that was cut short as the count down to 2006 began. The new year was rang in with all three bands on stage plus all of their family and friends singing "May the Circle Be Unbroken" and confetti being shot of large canons. During the Black crows second set they performs an amazing version of My Morning Song. Then they were joined by the East Coast Horns for a breathe taking version of "Seeing Things". The horns then stayed on stage as the band was joined by Trey Anastasio for a very energetic version of "Hard to Handle". The night ended with a great version of "Street Fighting Man". Best wishes and a happy new year.
