Wolf Parade @ NYU

Wolf Parade played their final show of their tour last night at NYU's Kimmel Auditorium. It was also their third and final New York City show. I felt a little weird going to this show since I don't go to NYU and I graduated from college a number of years ago. I put those feeling aside and decide that it was worth going to because I had really enjoyed their performance at CMJ. I had a ticket to Monday's show at the Bowery Ballroom but missed it because I went to see Cream at Madison Square Garden. I am sure that last night's show was not Wolf Parade's best, but it was still fun. They played a few new songs as well as all of my favorites including "You are a Runner and I am my Father's son", "Dear Sons and Daughters of Hungry Ghost", "It's a curse" and "Disco Sheets". As I said last nights show wasn't great but I really love the album and it was great to hear a few new songs. The band just seemed really tired and even though they appeared to be having fun I think they would have preferred not to have played the show. However they did treat the audience to a extra long encore, which include a "really old song that had never been recorded" and cover of Paul Simon's "Graceland". Last nights show definitely only get two socks off. The show was fun but it just didn't seem to be their best performance

Jon Brion @ the Canal Room

Jon Brion played his third and final show in New York City last night. The 2 hour long set was filled with a number of originals and lots of covers. Including Captain and Tennille's "Love will Keep us together", Nirvana's "Lithium", David Bowie's "Heroes" and many more. The cover of "Heroes" was awesome. It was the final song of the night and it rocked my sock way off. It is so much fun to watch him build a track piece by piece and he seems to have so much fun doing it. It was especially cool to watch him build "heroes" because he seemed to jam of every instrument as he brought into the song. The crowd really seemed to be enjoying the show, which is sometimes hard to find in New York City. Jon also promised that he will be back very soon. Let's hope so. So to keep with my new rating system this show easily gets four socks off.
